Description
The Zwilling TwinSharp red knife sharpener (ref. 32590-300) is a handy tool for sharpening simply and quickly. Even the best knife needs regular attention, and this model turns putting it off into a matter of moments.
German-designed and modern in red, it adds a splash of colour to the kitchen without giving up practicality: it is made of high-quality ABS plastic that cleans easily.
A regular touch-up keeps the edge
All you do is pass the blade through the sharpener. Its stainless steel and ceramic discs work in a single step and the angle, roughly 35°, is set at the factory, so you need no previous experience.
Light and easy to clean
It weighs 100 g and measures 16.5 cm long, 6.6 cm wide and 4.5 cm high. Its ABS body cleans easily, an advantage if you use it often.
Which knives it can sharpen
It is designed for straight-edge, uncoated knives, since the paint on the blade could be damaged. It is not suitable for scissors, serrated or saw-edge blades, or oriental blades with a single bevel; if your santoku is sharpened on both faces, go ahead. If in doubt, take a good look at your knife before using it.
How to use the sharpener
Before trying it out, have a look at the manufacturer’s instructions. The procedure is this:
- Set the TwinSharp on a flat, dry and stable work surface, and clean and dry the knife blade.
- Hold the handle firmly and lean a little weight downwards to hold the sharpener in place.
- Run the blade through the slot with the edge down, pulling it towards your body with little pressure, from heel to tip. Take it out and repeat the movement several times.
- Finish with a cutting test on a sheet of paper to see how the edge turned out.
Maintenance is minimal: turn the sharpener over to get rid of the residue, wipe it with a soft, dry cloth and avoid water and the dishwasher, which could damage it.
